Information needed to apply
  • A description of the damage.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster.
  • Your Social Security number.
  • Contact information.
  • If you have insurance, your policy number, agent or company.
  • Annual household income.
  • Your bank account information for direct deposit.
Documenting your damages

Take photos of any damage to your property. If you have insurance, file a claim with your insurance company right away. FEMA can’t help you with things that your insurance will cover.

What does FEMA assistance help with?
Serious Needs Assistance: FEMA can help pay for things like food, water, baby supplies, medicine, and other emergency stuff.

Displacement Assistance: FEMA can help pay for housing, like hotels.

Other eligible expenses: FEMA can help pay for rent, basic home repairs, and lost property.

What happens after you apply?
  • FEMA might inspect your property to see the damage.
  • FEMA will send you a letter telling you if they approved your application.
    • If you don’t agree with the decision, you can appeal it.
    • If your application is approved, FEMA will send you money by check or direct deposit.
