In the state of Georgia, community colleges, technical schools and other organizations offer free or low cost nurse assistant programs through the federal Workforce Development act. For students who are interested in a career as a CNA but don’t have the financial means to pay, these free or discounted courses provide the opportunity to work towards a meaningful career. Colleges throughout Georgia have established specialized Workforce Development programs to provide training in several areas of key importance to area employers including health care services. You will need to inquire with Workforce Development Centers across the state to learn more about the nurse assistant certification programs and their locations.

The CNA program at Covenant CNA School offers a basic study of principles and procedures used by the Nursing Assistant in long term care, home health settings and hospitals. Registration includes a $250 non-refundable deposit to reserve your seat in class for the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. The Certified Nursing Assistant program is $600.00. Not included in the program fee is the application fee $25, the CNA State Certification Exam of $107, Nurses Service Organization Malpractice Insurance of $29, and the TB exam of $20. The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is a 4-week course that meets Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm or in the evening from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. CNA Training in Georgia

Individuals can become a certified nursing assistant in the state of Georgia only after successful completion of state approved studies and certification exam at an approved testing site.  All programs are 85 hours and range from 5 weeks to 2 semesters in length. The cost of these programs is between $600 and $1200, but there are some long-term care facilities that provide free or low cost training programs. Scholarships, payment plans, and student loans are generally available at colleges and technical schools. Some locations that offer free training sometimes offer students arrangements to receive compensation. Below is a list of approved CNA programs in the state of Georgia:

Southeastern Technical College – at Candler County 25 West Daniel Street, Metter, Georgia 30439
The Southeastern Technical College nurse certification program requires individuals to Complete a minimum of 85 hours in a State approved nurse aide training program, which includes of classroom/lab hours and 24 hours of clinical training within a Nursing Home Facility clinical setting under a Georgia certified trainer. As well, students must take the written/oral and skills competency examination after successful completion of the nurse aide training program and clinical rotation. The program will issue the student a training program completion certificate, which will allow the student to schedule testing for the written/oral and skills competency examination. The program can usually be completed in 1 semester during the daytime, but generally takes 2 semesters (terms) to complete at night. To graduate, students must earn 13 credit hours. The Nurse Aide Technical Certificate of Credit at Okefenokee Technical College prepares students with classroom training and practice as well as the clinical experiences in various settings including general medical and surgical hospitals, nursing care facilities and more. This is a 13 credit certificate program with an estimated cost of $988 with additional fees required for text books and other course related supplies. The Nurse Aide certificate program at West Georgia Technical College prepares students with classroom training and practice as well as the clinical experiences. This is a 13 credit program to be completed over a single semester. The cost of this program is estimated at $775 and includes tuition and registration fees. The Nurses Aid program at Altamaha Technical Institute is a 13 credit certificate program that prepares students with classroom training and practice as well as the clinical experiences necessary to care for patients in various settings including general medical and surgical hospitals and nursing care facilities. Students who successfully complete the Nurse Aide Technical Certificate of Credit may be eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment program (NNAAP) which determines competency to become enrolled in the State nusrse aide registry. A background check or background check and drug screen are required by clinical sites to place students on clinical rotation as required by the CNA program. The CNA program at Murray Career Institute offers classes toward certification that meets for 2 weeks during the day and for 5 weeks during the evening. All classes meet at The Sylvan Building 233 Mitchell Street in downtown Atlanta. Instruction fees paid to the school include experienced instruction, text book, uniform, and TB test. Not included in tuition but required for each student: CPR exam, background check, and drug screen. Tuition for the CNA program is $520.00 for the day program and the evening programs.
